The Mayor

Dave Budd was elected Mayor of Middlesbrough on 7 May 2015. As elected Mayor, Mayor Budd is the political leader of Middlesbrough Council with decision-making powers over most of the Council's activities.

Mayor Budd was elected on a manifesto of making Middlesbrough fairer, safer, and stronger. He is committed to regenerating our town, and to ensuring people in all our communities get the opportunities they deserve. The Mayor is clear that Middlesbrough is the city centre of a city region, and its people should have the services and facilities to reflect that.

The Mayor represents Middlesbrough and the Tees Valley on regional bodies, such as the North East Culture Partnership and the Tees Valley Combined Authority.

Mayor Budd has lived in, and worked around, Middlesbrough his whole life and raised his family in the town. Mayor Budd worked as a local bank manager for many years, helping and supporting local businesses to start up and to grow. Representing Hemlington and later Ladgate ward, Dave Budd was first elected as a Councillor in 1991, serving as Executive Member for Regeneration and as Deputy Mayor before being elected as Mayor. Dave has represented Middlesbrough regionally and nationally, fighting to make Middlesbrough's voice heard.

For a decade, Mayor Budd has been leading the huge task of transforming and regenerating our town. Dave has been involved in the Middlehaven project since the start and helped to deliver some of our town's most iconic spaces, such as mima, Centre Square and the new Holiday Inn Express.

Mayor Budd was born and raised in Middlesbrough and is a committed Boro fan; following them across Europe, and through highs and lows for many years. He is also a cricket fan and a proud granddad.

The Mayor's Executive

The Mayor appoints a cabinet of Executive Members to assist him in delivering his vision for a fairer, safer, and stronger Middlesbrough. Mayor Budd's Executive is gender-balanced and contains Labour Councillors from across the town.
